Becoming a Student
Whether you were born in the 20s, the twenty-tens or anytime between, learning something new can be really daunting. Trust me! I know! I'm currently learning the Cello! Everyone learns things differently no matter what age you are, and it is my job as your teacher to adapt to your needs and requirements.

I try to encourage my students to make mistakes. That is the scariest part of learning! However, those mistakes are what teach us the hardest lessons.
I introduce my students to a wide range of genres to explore and hopefully perform. Before the pandemic, I had arranged 2 concerts of which my students had the opportunity to showcase what they had learnt in their lessons. Both of which were a huge success! The most recent one was held at the newly opened Cryer Arts Theatre in Carshalton AND we sold out! This not only gave my students a chance to perform to their friends, family and peers but also a chance to feel like proper rockstars and perform in a hugely professional environment.

For my older vocal students, I often take them to local open mic nights where they can experience performing in front of an audience without the pressure of it being perfect like you would for an exam or theatre performance.

I am also offering recording sessions as an optional addition to the lesson. For more information,

"My 9-year-old, Lily, had been previously taught at her school by another teacher, so when I approached Emily I had lots of questions and a request to please put together an 8-week programme leading up to Christmas that would allow my daughter to enjoy learning some Christmas tunes building on the knowledge she already had. Emily was so accommodating to what we needed and helped Lily tremendously in renewing her enthusiasm for practice and playing. Lily was motivated and progressed so well that Emily gave her the opportunity to perform her piece at the Christmas concert. I found her teaching method very inclusive allowing the students to always learn based on their particular interest of music style.
Emily is local and also very involved musically in the community, allowing her students to follow her on her initiatives in Sutton and Carshalton. I myself even joined Emily's weekly run Community Choir at the time and got the opportunity to perform at the Christmas Concert with my daughter too! Priceless memories. Very grateful that our paths crossed."

I have been having piano lessons with Emily for the past two years. I had never played the piano before and Emily has helped me in developing my confidence and enjoyment in playing the piano. I enjoy my lessons with Emily. She adds humour and makes the lessons fun and enjoyable.
I feel very proud that I was able to take part in two concerts that Emily organised. And my family were able to see me play a piece of music confidently in front of a large audience.
